After 5 years, and what started as a personal experiment, we have achieved our 100th Jackal gasmask. Ironically, it ended up being a custom job that allowed Stego to outdo himself yet again.

Dont stare at it too long or make eye contact. It wasnt very patient.

Sometimes you are trapped between the kind of mythical creature that you want to be. Between equine energies and the dragon, this creation ended up with three light blue horns. Usually the nostrils get modified for dragon orders but the commissioner left it as the horse aspect of this vision, especially with ears absent. Some of the design elements were inspired by Asian deco art. The S-shape horn complements the curved lines finely done with gold...a nightmare in itself when working on symmetry.

Although we do offer a selection of horns for DG1 and DG2 masks, the shape of these golden horns were more to a customer's character design. The zig zag direction of the horns is subtle in comparison to some drawings, but our poor dragon friend must duck in doorways nonetheless. We revisited the idea of scales/plates for a mask design, addressing the concept of dragon scales in this minimal form.

Who knew that giraffes might also be made of rubber? A simple attempt off of our existing equine masks, we positioned the ears more to the side. We had to sculpt a set of ossicones (these are the nodes atop a giraffe's head). In nature, they have tufts of hair/fur on it but we look at our creation as a bouncy rubber giraffe, so we made the horn shape silly and simple. We love the versatility of the wearer, and our mask now makes that apparent.

For our concert going friends, we bring you something dead. When it comes to masks with white as a base coat or as a marking, we take additional steps in our mixing to ensure that the whites stay white as long as possible. This mask, however, was deliberately made without those steps, to ensure that the white will naturally age, keeping the mask representative of bones. Creating this look required a bit of reduction (and destruction), using some of our refinement tools. Combined with the black of the inner ears, these gashes enhance the look of a skull that has been around for a long time. We consider this quite an experimental design, and appreciate the customers who dont mind us trying something out and seeing what happens.
